I need something safe and organic I can use for gnats in and around my african grey parrot cage.
Using any pesticide around birds is not a good idea unless it’s organic. Up till now we’ve had a limited selection but currently stock some organic aerosol products which are proving Ok for use in sensitive areas. Both the FLYING INSECT KILLER and HOUSE PLANT INSECT KILLER are certified organic by NOP and are ideally suited for your situation.
First, remove the bird from the cage and give the bottom a good cleaning. Once all papers or other “liner” material is removed, lightly mist with either organic spray listed above. Allow the area to sit for at least 1 hour and the bird can then be returned safely.
Next, treat as needed. Organic sprays don’t leave much if any residual so you’ll need to treat on a regular basis. This could be as often as twice a week when the gnats are worse or most active. Remember too they need moisture and organic matter so it’s important to keep the cage clean. This combined with periodic treatments should keep the gnats under control.
