I found your website while I was searching for product for spidermite control.  Since some of my other plants (cactus/agave) seem to have mealybug problems, can you recommend an insecticide for that problem?

Mealybug control should be done when you are seeing them on plants either inside or around the outside of the home. It’s important that you spray both the plant and the ground underneath the plant to prevent re infestations. Mealybugs will readily infest potted plants inside the home at any time of year. During the summer, they can live on most any plant and though they may disappear when it gets cold, failure to treat them when active insures they’ll be back the following year.

We have several organic products which will work well for Mealybugs. For inside potted plants, we recommend one of our organic sprays like INSECTICIDAL SOAP or the more versatile 3 IN 1 CONCENTRATE. Soap has no residual so you will have to spray it over and over; 3 IN 1 combines a miticide, insecticide and fungicide all in one so it’s more robust and casts a bigger “net of impact” when used. Plus it lasts longer and has a built in spreader sticker. Spreader sticker helps the active ingredients to cover more of the surface area of the plant essentially dispersing it when applied. This is important when treating for mealybugs since they hide well up under plant leaves and other areas not easily seen from above, where most people spray.

We also recommend keeping a few cans of the organic aerosol HOUSEPLANT INSECT KILLER close by to deal with minor activity when noticed but before a full spraying is really needed. The above products are also ideal for organic gardens and can be used on organic vegetable growers, organic herb gardens and any other edible plant or tree.

The stronger chemical concentrate we have that works well for mealybugs is BIFEN. Combine it with SPREADER STICKER and use it on outside plants for long term control. Bifen is odorless and will last a month or more per application and in the long run, will work the best but it’s not to be used on edidible plants or anything organic.

Apply any of these concentrates with a good PUMP SPRAYER and be sure to spray the soil underneath since this is prime area for reproduction.
