I have a dog that runs around the yard; when is it safe for the dog to play in the yard after spraying with atrazine?
I plant a garden every year is it safe to plant a garden after spraying or not?
I really want to kill the weeds in my yard; do I need to spray more than once in a season.
thank you
First, I recommend you read through our online WEED CONTROL ARTICLE which covers most every common scenario around the average home owner’s property. This article is well written and explains in detail what product or products are best suited for most every weed problem from treating grass, mulch islands, pine straw to even vegetable gardens. I’m sure you’ll gain a lot of good knowledge you’ll be able to employ right away and get control of your landscape with confidence following the time it takes to read.
Second, you can rest assured that when used properly, all the products recommended in the weed control article are safe for your landscape, your pets and your family. There are certain “rules” you must follow following any treatment (before-during-after) but these are all detailed and explained in our SAFETY VIDEOS. The videos you should watch would be on using Liquid Concentrates and the one on Granule Applications in the yard. And these pertain to all liquid and granule applications made in the yard including the use of Atrazine. So to answer your question; the simple answer is to keep everyone away when treating and wait till the applications dry before they are allowed to return and it’s safe for them and your dog. More importantly, this process should be followed for any product we sell. Remember, the products are being dispersed over a huge area and when done properly are a none issue. And be sure to watch the videos as they cover a lot more of what we call “safe handling” and like the weed control article, are very informational.
Lastly, I find I typically have to spray my yard at least twice a year and I think that’s a reasonable expectation if you wish to obtain good weed and insect control. As you’ll learn in our weed control article, the use of a pre emerge can really cut down on the frequency and quantity of weeds that will ever grow on your property. But even the pre emerge won’t stop everything. I find the SURFLAN (pre emerge) applied twice a year does a great job and during the season I get an occasional broadleaf and nutsedge growing which requires some summer applications. I typically have to apply some IMAGE, MSMA WEED KILLER or POISON IVY KILLER at some point no matter how well I treat in the winter and spring. I live alongside a forest so I think I get a lot of stuff making it’s way onto my property so this might not be a common problem every homeowner faces. But all things considered, my grass looks great and since I keep my PH balanced, I find fighting the weeds to be an easy problem and one that only takes a little bit of direct treating in the summer.
