I’ve had a kitchen ant invasion this spring and they just keep coming inside. I vacuum up 25-50 every morning and then during the day I’ll see more slowly start to show up again. By dinner time they’re back and I’ll have to vacuum again just to enjoy an evening ant free. I refuse to spray anything in my kitchen so I don’t think there is anything I can do but I am getting a bit desperate. Any suggestions?
Ants forage inside when left to roam around most any house. If you get them outside before they have a chance to get in, you’ll probably be able to keep them under control with little effort. The key will be to use the three prong approach described in our Ant Control article.
For starters, you’ll need to set out some Ant Gel in the kitchen. This product is not a spray but instead is a bait. When used properly it’s very safe and yet very effective. Renew applications every 1-2 weeks till the problem subsides.
Outside you’ll need to spray with the Cypermethrin or Optigard Flex to stop new ants from coming inside. This will be vital for long term control of this pest. Use a good Pump Sprayer and be sure to treat out into the turf a way so you have a nice band of treated area.
Lastly, you should treat the yard with either some Turf Granules or Maxforce Ant Bait. This will intercept foraging ants and again, prevent new nests from getting too close to the home.
